Webinar – AI-proof assessment – Designing assessments that make thinking visible

· 1 min read · Pascal Mariany

Generative AI forces us to rethink what we actually want to measure.

As AI gets better and better at producing end products, the focus shifts to the thinking process, professional judgement and justification.

In this session I introduced a practical design framework that links the principles of the AI Act to didactics and assessment quality.

Participants were given practical tools to design assessments that not only measure performance, but above all make the thinking behind it visible.

AI was not treated as a risk, but as a reality for which we need to make assessment future-proof. The HEAR framework, which I developed myself from practical experience, can serve as a useful foundation when you are conversing with AI. You can find more information in my book: “De Kunst van het samen(over)leven met aI”

The session combined vision with concrete design principles and examples from educational practice. With no fewer than 121 participants, this was a record. Great to see how much need there is for guidance on this theme. Universities of applied sciences such as Fontys Hogeschool, Hogeschool Saxion, HAN University of Applied Sciences, Hogeschool Rotterdam, Hogeschool Inholland, Windesheim and Hogeschool Utrecht. But also people from primary and secondary education, vocational education (MBO) and universities.

Thanks to everyone who was there!

In the session I also showed how we put this into practice with EduGPT (www.edugpt.nl), in which AI companions support the thinking process rather than replace it. We are currently also exploring this in pilots with educational institutions.

I'm curious: how does your organisation view assessment in an age of generative AI? Leave a message in the comments!
