What are the biggest pain points with AI in education and government?

· 1 min read · Pascal Mariany

During the event “AI in education and government – desirable, but human”, a live poll with the audience made it clear:

1️⃣ Lack of AI literacy among teachers

2️⃣ Lack of vision and strategic implementation

3️⃣ Concerns about the quality of AI output

4️⃣ Uncertainty about privacy & ethics (GDPR / AI Act)

5️⃣ Imbalance between student autonomy and teacher control

🎙️ Together with Daniel Verloop, Marieke van Osch, Maaike Groenewege, Erik Jan Hartsenko and Dieter Vlaminck, among others, we discussed the tensions, but above all the opportunities.

💡 I shared how educational institutions can use AI locally and securely with tools such as Open WebUI, without depending on Big Tech. That creates room for autonomy, transparency and customisation in learning and innovation.

  • As far as I'm concerned, the key lies in three words:

responsible, human-centred and strategic.
