Knowledge clip – AI in primary education – one year on | From inspiration to direction for ICT coordinators, teachers and school leaders

AI in primary education, one year on. What has changed since October 2025 and what does that mean for your school board, your school and your classroom?

I will soon be giving this training to a network of board-level ICT coordinators. I am sharing it here already as a knowledge clip, because I think it is too good not to share. You will find the PDF of the presentation below, so you can also run the training yourself with your own team.

Who is this knowledge clip for?

First and foremost for the board-level ICT coordinator. But teachers, school leaders, board members, DPOs and members of the (joint) participation council will also benefit. AI in school is not a job for one role. We need all stakeholders. And don't forget the pupils and parents.

What you will take away

  • Six shifts since October 2025. The AI Act has become concrete, the core objectives for digital literacy are on their way, AI is entering schools through software updates, The Hague is putting digital autonomy on the agenda, performing turns out not to be the same as learning, and pupils have long been using AI at home.
  • An AI policy ladder to determine where your school board stands. Waiting, exploring, framed, embedded or learning.
  • Three maps for the route. The AI policy step-by-step plan from Kennisnet, the roadmap from the Arbeidsmarktplatform PO and my five building blocks for AI policy.
  • HEAR as a framework for conversation. Four questions that keep the conversation about AI sharp.
  • Your role, from administrator to director. And what you can already do tomorrow, without waiting for policy.

Activities

The clip follows the structure of the training, including the sticker round, break and activities. Feel free to pause the video and do the activities with your own team, ideally a mix of teachers and board members.
