AI workshop: AI-aware lesson design and teaching practice at Het Schoonhovense College

Last Friday I was a guest at Het Schoonhovens College as Education Oracle, for a workshop on AI-aware lesson design and teaching practice. It is great to see how quickly the conversation in education is deepening: yet another group of teachers who have demonstrably become more AI literate.

We did not just talk about opportunities and frameworks; above all, we got to work. Teachers worked with EduGPT, designed their own didactic AI companions and experienced how to use AI in a deliberate, learning-focused way. Not as a replacement for thinking, but as an amplifier of the learning process.

An important part of the afternoon was the joint conversation about timing. When do you use an AI companion? When do you deliberately not? And how do you make sure ownership stays with the student? With the AI Act as a design framework.

Afternoons like this make me optimistic. AI literacy visibly grows when we take professionals seriously, let them experiment and have the conversation about pedagogy, responsibility and design.

Thanks to all the teachers involved for their open attitude, sharp questions and the courage to explore. And thanks to Pascal Frank for the invitation.

On to education in which technology remains in service of learning.
