🚀 AI Symposium ROC Mondriaan: future-focused education in action!
On 27 March, ROC Mondriaan held its AI Symposium in the iconic Fokker Terminal in The Hague. A day full of inspiration, innovation and interaction — exactly how you hope education comes across in an era in which artificial intelligence (AI) is having an ever greater impact.

“At ROC Mondriaan we prepare students for the future. AI plays an increasingly important role in that”, said Marcel Kropmans, director of ICT/IT. And you could feel it: from thought-provoking debates to hands-on demonstrations in which technology and education merged into something new. The central message? Don’t wait and see, but discover how AI can reduce workload, support teachers and strengthen the learning process.
💡 My contribution: Feedback Companion – AI with an educational heart
In my workshop “Give your students more insight with the Feedback Companion” I showed how to use AI in education in a way that is both practical and responsible. Not as a replacement for the teacher, but as a smart companion that supports feedback based on learning outcomes, skills and goals.
We explored:
- The power of Hattie’s feedback model (Feed Up – Feedback – Feed Forward)
- Smart prompting tailored to your programme
- Examples from practice: from sprint reviews and peer feedback to individual coaching
- Local AI: EU AI Act-proof applications running on your own device or within your own school environment
- And of course: a live demo of the Feedback Companion via Azure OpenAI, with full respect for privacy and transparency.

âś… AI literacy: not optional, but essential
As the icing on the cake, participants in my session received an AI literacy certificate. Because if we want students to engage with AI consciously, critically and creatively, it starts with developing a shared language and understanding of the technology. We actively contribute to that with the AI Literacy Companion and our knowledge clips.
