Book announcement: De kunst van het samenleven met AI (The Art of Living with AI)

How do we live wisely with AI?
Over the past few years one question has not let go of me: what happens to learning, education and humanity when AI increasingly thinks along with us, decides with us and sometimes even anticipates our actions?
That search has been shaped by my daily work at the intersection of education, AI and digital sovereignty; in conversations with pupils, students, teachers, executives, policymakers, examination boards and professionals looking for something to hold on to in a rapidly changing landscape. At the end of March my new book will be published: De kunst van het samenleven met AI (The Art of Living with AI).
It is not a technology book, nor a manual full of quick answers. It is an invitation to pedagogical and societal reflection. About how we can use AI not only more smartly, but above all more humanely. Including practical exercises with AI companions, and guidance for designing them yourself and using them responsibly.
AI now touches everything. Our education, our work, the way we think. So the real question is not whether AI will become part of our lives, but how we stay in control. At home too!
In the book I explore, among other things:
- why AI is, at its core, a pedagogical question
- how we can strengthen critical thinking and human judgement
- what digital sovereignty means for education and public values
- and how AI can function as a companion rather than a replacement
No doom-mongering. No hype. But a well-considered compass for living with AI.
For everyone involved in learning, education, leadership and the future of our society.

I am curious what questions this theme raises for you. Where do you see the greatest tension between this technology and humanity?
